Serving NALC's retired members

NALC's Retirement Department assists retired letter carriers regarding their benefits under the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and the Federal Employees' Retirement System (FERS). The department also provides help and advice to survivors of retired letter carriers. The current NALC director of retired members is Ernie Kirkland.

While active letter carriers will find the CSRS and FERS annuity estimates useful along with the general information in our NALC retirement publications, they should contact their local personnel office for specific answers to their questions or when preparing for retirement (see Counseling).

Annuity withholding changes: The "Making Work Pay" tax credit expired Dec. 31. The credit was originally included as a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (President Obama's economic stimulus package). As a result, many retirees could see higher federal tax withholding amounts this year, although due to an IRS delay, any adjustment of withholding levels did not actually take place until Feb. 1. Click here to read an explanation of the tax credit, and click here to read a PDF explaining the change. Federal Times

My name is Natalie Walker and I work in the HR department for the Morrow Community Center. In an effort to help out our employees here, I've been working on putting together a Retirement Planning Guide to make the process a little easier to understand. I wanted to thank you for all the work you've done on http://www.nalc421.com/member-info-links/retirement/, it's been a huge help!

During my additional research, I found a really great article that I wanted to share with you:
