Retirement savings plan: CCAs now have access to a plan designed specifically to help them save money for retirement. Provided for by the 2013 Das interest arbitration award, the retirement savings plan (RSP) for CCAs who are members of the NALC was created by the union’s Mutual Benefit Association (MBA) to give CCAs a tax-deferred way to save for retirement. The RSP was organized as a traditional IRA and was specially created for CCAs who are not yet eligible to earn pension benefits under FERS or to participate in the TSP. Click here to find out more.

2015 retiree cost-of-living adjustment (COLA)
The 2015 COLAs for CSRS and FERS benefits are based on the increase in the average CPI-W between the 3rd quarter of 2013 (230.327) and the 3rd quarter of 2014. The 3rd quarter of 2014 average CPI-W was calculated today at 234.242, so the 2015 retiree COLAs will be 1.7%. CSRS annuities receive full COLAs; COLAs for FERS annuities are payable for retirees 62 and older and may be reduced by up to one percentage point from the increase in the CPI. The COLAs will be included in CSRS and FERS payments starting in January 2015.
Serving NALC's retired members
NALC's Retirement Department assists retired letter carriers regarding their benefits under the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and the Federal Employees' Retirement System (FERS). The department also provides help and advice to survivors of retired letter carriers. The current NALC director of retired members is Ernie Kirkland.
While active letter carriers will find the CSRS and FERS annuity estimates useful along with the general information in our NALC retirement publications, they should contact their local personnel office for specific answers to their questions or when preparing for retirement (see Counseling).
Retirement Manual CD
The NALC Retirement Manual in compact disc (CD) format is available for purchase through the NALC's Supply Department.
Retiree Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA)
NALC members' donations to the Committee on Letter Carrier Political Education—the union's political action wing—are absolutely critical to help NALC fight for the future of the USPS and ensure retirement security for letter carriers and their survivors.
