Employees who are on leave without pay (LWOP) status totaling 80 hours during the leave year have their leave reduced by the amount of leave earned in a pay period. This also applies to additional increments of 80 hours LWOP.
One final note about leave without pay, this is a discretionary leave request. Management, in most cases, is not contractually bound to approve these requests. In recent years fewer requests for LWOP have been approved. Annual and sick leave are negotiated benefits. Use your annual and sick leave wisely to be sure they are available when needed.
